Hepburn Avenue Stage 2 Extension Planned to Ease Traffic Congestion
The City of Swan has announced plans to extend Hepburn Avenue to ease congestion and improve access to the City's surrounding areas.
The Hepburn Avenue Stage Two Extension is part of the Federal Government's Nation Building Program and will assist in reducing traffic overcrowding, improving road safety and allow better access for road freight throughout the area.
City of Swan Chief Executive Officer, Mike Foley said that studies commissioned by Main Roads and the City of Swan have indicated that the link will provide significant relief to major arterial roads in the area.
"Relieving traffic build up in places such as Alexander Drive, Reid Highway and Beach Road will provide flow on benefits by easing congestion on other roads in the area and improving access to the Malaga Industrial Area," he said.
The City of Swan will receive a $5 million grant from the Federal Government and will lead the road construction.
The project involves the construction of a single carriageway between Beechboro Road North and Marshall Road, with earthworks for a dual carriageway.
Four lanes will be built on the approaches to the intersections with Marshall Road and Beechboro Road North as well as a dual use path from Alexander Drive to Marshall Road to be constructed.
The project has been welcomed by the local community.
