Midland Arts and Crafts Markets Opened
Check out the new Midland Art and Crafts Markets!
The markets – a joint project between the City of Swan and the Rotary Club of Midland – were opened by the City’s Midland Ward Councillor, Sandra Gregorini, on Saturday, October 16.
City of Swan Mayor, Cr Charlie Zannino, said the markets would boost Saturday trade in the City and at the same time provide fundraising for Rotary which helped hundreds of City residents.
“It’s a good combination and it’s enjoyable for people to come to the markets and buy locally produced goods,” he said.
Cr Gregorini said the markets were an excellent opportunity for more designers, artists and crafts people to get involved, particularly since the project was set to expand to nearly 80 stalls by the end of the year.
The markets will be held on the third Saturday of each month – the next two being November 20 and December 18 - in the picturesque Juniper Gardens near the Midland Junction Arts Centre off Cale Street. They will be open between 9am and 3pm.
The opening saw more than 40 stallholders including local artists, craftspeople and woodcarvers showcasing paintings, hand crafted crystal and customised photographics. Many stalls featured local produce.
Ellenbrook Ward Councillor, Patty Williams and Altone Ward Cuncillors, David Fardig and Deputy Mayor Mick Wainwright, attended the opening.
Midland Rotary Club’s president, Robert Briggs, said he was delighted and encouraged by the initial response and was confident the markets would grow. Funds raised will assist the club’s support of charity activities, including several projects for children and the elderly in the Midland area.
The markets are staffed by a dedicated team of Rotary volunteers who are happy to let you know how you can get involved in community projects that really make a difference.
To reserve a stallholder bay for the next markets, or to enquire about the club, contact Mr Briggs on 9293 3458 or robert_briggs@iinet.net.au.
Stall holders are invited to provide their contact information to the City of Swan Market Stall Holder register on the City’s website. For more information, email Dianne.Gates@swan.wa.gov.au.
