Seniors discounts a popular move

Local seniors have been lining up to take advantage of new discounts on memberships at City of Swan Leisure Centres.

From July 1, seniors aged 65 or over, who are a resident or ratepayer in the City of Swan and hold a seniors card or pension card, are entitled to a discount of 50 per cent.

City Mayor, Charlie Zannino, said Council had supported the discount to help promote fitness among local seniors.

"We recognise the many benefits of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle, and want to make sure this is available to all members of our community," he said.

"We have some seniors who are very active and this is great to see.

"However, there are also others who have told us they would love to be members of the Leisure Centre but found it hard on the pension.

"Just three days in, we have already seen a great demand for these new discounts and I'm looking forward to seeing many new members at our Leisure Centres."

Living Longer Living Stronger participants Jenny and Jim Miolin have welcomed the move.

"We've been coming to the Living Longer Living Stronger sessions at Altone Park for about four years and we really look forward to it each week," Mrs Miolin said.

"It really improves your confidence, your balance and your strength.

"I've been paying the casual entry fee but I am going to take advantage of the discounts and become a member."

For more information on membership options, contact Altone Park Leisure Centre on 9377 6181, Ballajura Aquatic Centre on 9248 7411 or Swan Park Leisure Centre on 9250 2120.
