A four part seminar program for individuals who feel disempowered, alienated, weary or overwhelmed by the complexity and challenges of the job hunting process, that will help participants to build their confidence, clarity and connection. It will primarily be a support, empowerment and information/resources program, teaching key confidence and communication skills in a supportive group environment.
The seminar program aims to provide individuals undertaking the job hunting journey with:
- Understanding that job hunting is a process requiring energy, commitment and tenacity.
- Information and perspective on the complexities and challenges of the current work market.
- Confidence building and self-empowerment strategies
- Effective job search strategies and how to create connections
- Learning the art of job interviews and self-promotion

Seminar 1 – The New World of Work (Introductory Session)
Tuesday, February 16, 5pm – 6.30pm
This will be an introductory talk outlining the challenges and complexity of the job market and world of work today. It will also introduce library patrons to the upcoming Job Search Seminar Series, commencing on Tuesday, March 1. It will enable participants to meet the presenter Judith Hamilton and provide them with the opportunity to ask questions and sign up for the series
Seminar 2 – Building Confidence and Clarity
Tuesday, March 1, 4pm – 6.30pm
To outline the importance of self-esteem and self-belief in the job search process. Also workshopped will be the role of presentation and communication skills, and the importance of commitment, work ethics and so called ‘soft skills’ in getting work and staying motivated through the process.
Seminar 3 – Creating Connections
Tuesday, March 8, 4pm – 6.30pm
To introduce some innovative job search techniques and tactics. Daring to be different – making personal approaches to employers. Creating relationships. Volunteering and networking. Market research.
Seminar 4 – The Art of Interviews
Tuesday, March 15, 4pm – 6.30pm
Understanding the importance of self-marketing. Conducting a marketing interview and cold calling. Panel and individual interviews. Understanding the importance of body language – yours and theirs.
The program is available to all ages and ethnic backgrounds however a basic level of English is required.
Participants must attend the introductory session, The New World of Work, on February 16 to be eligible to enrol in the program.
The seminars are consecutive and participants will be required to enrol for the complete program, as the individual seminars are part of a thematic package. The presenter has also built into the program the teaching of certain traits that will be advantageous to job hunting and to learning communication skills in a group setting. These are also cumulative, increasing the need to attend all seminars in the series.
