City of Swan

Travel and Transport

Perhaps not surprisingly, most people use their car to get from A to B. And, most of these trips are usually short distances of under 5 km. This is causing greater congestion on our roads and longer travel times. However, with a bit of planning, you can get to most destinations without your car. Plus, you’ll find it will be cheaper, healthier and better for the environment. So, before you take your next trip, check out how the City of Swan’s public transport services, cycling and walking routes can help you get to where you want to go.

Local TravelSmart Guide

If you’re after a quick snapshot of public transport services, walking and cycling information, check out our Local TravelSmart Guide. Travel

Cycling

In a recent travel survey, we found that half the number of car trips made by residents were 5 km or less! This shows that cycling would be a possible means of transport for many people. In addition, cycling offers terrific health and fitness benefits, is free and a lot of fun – especially when you’re joined by friends or family.

The City of Swan has many cycle routes  within its boundaries, including the beautiful Swan Valley Heritage Cycle Trail. This 12 km off-road cycle path takes you along West Swan Road between Swan Street, Guildford and Henley Street, Henley Brook.

Walking

Walking is the one of the easiest and cheapest forms of travel. It’s also good for your overall mental and physical wellbeing. To encourage everyone to get more active and start walking as much as possible, the Western Australian government, in conjunction with local government and non-government agencies, have devised Walk WA: A Walking Strategy for Western Australia (2007 – 2020). You’ll find plenty of walking routes  in the City of Swan to help you easily incorporate physical activity into your daily life. And, for a list of walking routes and trails throughout Perth, visit www.transport.wa.gov.au/walking
