Fluorescent Bulbs

If fluorescent bulbs are not disposed of correctly, the chemicals inside them can leak into the environment. To prevent this, the City of Swan provides collection points for these items in both the foyer of our Administration Centre and the Midland Public Library. A drop off point is also available at the "Green Room" which is located at the Ellenbrook Shopping Centre via the Main Street entrance to the shops. This facility also accepts other recycling streams in small amounts. For more information contact Waste Recycling Management on 9267 9045

Once the bulbs are collected, all their outer and inner materials are completely recycled. The glass from the bulbs is used to make insulation products, the gases are reused and the medical world benefits from the recycling of the internal mercury.
