Hazardous Waste

Hazardous waste is any waste that poses a serious risk to the public or the environment, due to its reactivity, flammability, corrosiveness or toxicity.

That’s why the City of Swan works closely with the East Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) to safely dispose of hazardous household products and chemicals.

Hazardous waste includes all of the following:

  • Acid
  • Batteries (car, truck and dry cell batteries)
  • Bleach
  • Car care products
  • Flares
  • Garden herbicides and pesticides
  • Old art supplies
  • Paint
  • Paint thinners
  • Pool chemicals
  • Pressurised gas cylinders
  • Scheduled poisons S2-S7
  • Solvents

If you have hazardous waste that needs disposing, you can take it to the Red Hill Waste Management Facility or take advantage of the monthly drumMUSTER Collection Program (see below).

DrumMUSTER Collection Program

The East Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) will run monthly drumMUSTER collections throughout the year. This program allows you to dispose of agricultural and chemical drums, containing anything from paints to chemicals.
