Love your local

Love your local

The City of Swan is inviting local businesses to take part in Love your local – a campaign developed by the City to celebrate and support the incredible range of businesses that make Swan a great place to live, work and play.

Love your local highlights participating businesses through free promotional opportunities, helping increase visibility, connect with new customers and showcase what makes them unique. By encouraging residents to shop locally, we strengthen our economy, support jobs and build a stronger, more connected community.

Other benefits include:

  • Reducing emissions by encouraging less travel
  • Providing greater convenience for consumers
  • Creating opportunities for local farmers and artists, trades retailers and more.

Get involved

If you own or operate a business in the City of Swan, nominate your business for Love your local to take part in this exciting community initiative. It’s completely free to participate and a great way to connect with locals who love supporting their community.

If you’d like to express your interest, complete the pick me form, and our selection panel will review your application before contacting you with the next steps.

The City of Swan is excited about this campaign and looks forward to meeting some fascinating local businesses and the people behind them.

Michelle Pearson, Founder Handcrafters House

Handcrafters House

Seeking inspiration for your next crafting project? A visit to Handcrafters House, located in Midland, is a great place to start.

Family owned and operated, the business was founded by Michelle Pearson, who began working alongside her mum in Karratha in the 1990s before opening the Perth store in 2003. After several years on the Crescent, the business moved to its current Midland location in 2010.

At the heart of the store is Michelle’s commitment to sharing her knowledge. An 84 square metre training room hosts workshops led by Michelle and handcrafting tutors from around the world.

Michelle feels fortunate to work in a field she loves with a close-knit team. They provide authentic service, practical advice and genuine support – creating a space where creativity, learning and connection thrive.

Location: 7/401 Great Eastern Highway, Midland.

Trillion Trees

Our region is richer for having Trillion Trees, an organisation nurtured by more than 100 regular volunteers and a dedicated team bound by a shared commitment to restoring and protecting native landscapes.

The charity delivers the area’s largest full-scale plant restoration program and operates a community nursery open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays, 9am-2pm. Every dollar spent and all public donations go directly into propagating and nurturing their 160,000 plants across 300 native varieties, protecting vital ecosystems, and bringing new life to degraded landscapes.

Kate Herren, Fundraising and Communications Coordinator, said it’s more than selling plants.

“It’s education, connection, and bringing our community and volunteers together,” she said.

Social Grounds Espresso

For Social Grounds Espresso, it’s simple – coffee, community and connection.

Zoe Wilson, Owner, is known for great coffee and a relaxed, personable nature – greeting new faces warmly and remembering regulars by name, order and story. It’s the kind of service that feels easy, authentic and real.

Social Grounds has grown into a trusted local presence by doing the basics well and showing up consistently. Setting the bar high is the expectation, not the rule.

Supported by the community it serves, Social Grounds continues to meet people where they are – creating moments of connection, one coffee at a time.

Motor Museum of Western Australia

Motor Museum of Western Australia

Preserving Western Australia’s motoring history for future generations – and keeping it front of mind – motivates Danny Ganon, Manager of The Motor Museum of Western Australia, to show up to work every day. He also values working closely with the dedicated volunteers who generously give their time to support the museum and the community.

Located in Whiteman Park, the museum has been a time capsule of automotive beauty and nostalgia for more than 30 years. Visitors can journey from a 1917 Ford Model T Ambulance, to the elegance of the two-tone green Byfield Jaguar Special, through to the future-focused 2022 RAC Intellibus and Daniel Ricciardo’s show stopping Red Bull Formula 1 racing car.

With 4,000 square metres of exhibition space, there’s something for all visitors, including motorcycles, 18,000 diecast model cars, a gift shop and few well-hidden Brums.

The Motor Museum of Western Australia is a worthwhile visit any time of the year.
