City to investigate traffic safety of Toodyay Road The City of Swan will conduct a traffic safety audit of Toodyay Road from Roe Highway to Talbot Road in a bid to attract funding for safety improvements through the State Government’s Black Spot program.
Expected to completed for the 2006/7 submission period (which closes in June 2005), the audit will examine safety of access to businesses along Toodyay Road as well the intersection of Toodyay Road and Lewis Jones Cross, Stratton.
The intersection has been subject to repeated requests by the City to Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) for improvements, but MRWA funding has never been a priority for the work an individual project.
“By examining the safety of the whole area and approaching it as an overarching project, there is more of a chance of obtaining funding for safety improvements that would include single projects like the Lewis Jones Cross intersection,” City Chief Executive Officer, Mr Eric Lumsden, said.
“While Toodyay Road at its intersection with Lewis Jones Cross is a MRWA responsibility, the City has heard the calls of its residents about safety concerns for the intersection and is doing what it can to resolve the issue.”
A petition containing 561 signatures requesting improvements to the intersection of Toodyay Road and Lewis Jones Cross, Stratton due to safety concerns was received by the City in November last year.
