World class swimming at Swan Park Leisure Centre Competitive swimming is alive and well at Swan Park Leisure Centre, the home to many talented swimmer, with Kerry Hutchinson returning this week from a very successful campaign at the World Masters Games in Sydney.
Kerry won a silver and gold medal in the 100m and 50m breaststroke respectively.
She swam a time of 42 seconds for the 50m breaststroke which was 3 seconds faster than her previous best, the current 55-59 age group Western Australia State Masters Record.
“I train early most mornings at Swan Park Leisure Centre with my swimming coach Chris Twomey, who is also responsible for the Swan Park Swimming Squad Programme.
Mr Twomey said Kerry was very deserving of her achievements at the World games because she has put so much effort and commitment into her swimming over the past year.
“Kerry is a credit to the squad. She’s a role model to the younger swimmers with her staunch work ethic and, more importantly, she is a team advocate, always offering support and encouragement to her fellow swimmers”.
Kerry now has her sights on the Rottnest Crossing Swim in February and the Masters Nationals in Launceston, Tasmania in April.
Taylor Campbell is another high achiever of the Swimming Squad Programme.
Taylor won two silver medals last weekend at the Western Australia State Distance Meet and shaved an amazing five seconds off her 200m backstroke and a second off her 400m freestyle to finish second in each event.
An ardent trainer with a very positive nature, she is one of many young swimmers coming through a very progressive swimming squad programme.
On November 21, Swan Park will run swimming clinics to promote the numerous benefits of swimming.
