Swan Regional Riverside Park Woodbridge All Abilities Play Space Community Consultation The Swan Regional Riverside Park (SRRP) will provide a major environmental, educational and cultural showpiece that connects the community to the unique natural and cultural environment of the Swan River.
Midland ward Councillor Jon Holmes said it would also deliver sustainable social, environmental and economic development for the region.
“The park is located in the Woodbridge/Viveash area on the Swan River at Midland, and is being developed as a major regional park, building with a beautiful riverside setting, an important system of wetlands and watercourses and unique indigenous and European cultural heritage features, all on one complete site of approximately 100 hectares and in close proximity to the Strategic Regional Centre of Midland,’’ Cr Holmes said.
“As part of the City’s Play Space Strategy, the SRRP will feature a regional All Abilities Play Space for the whole family to enjoy, which is proposed to be located at Woodbridge Riverside Park, on the corner of First Avenue and Bayley Street and be part of extensive works to the Swan Regional Riverside Park.
“In support of the City of Swan’s commitment to ensure community and stakeholders are consulted and involved in the decision making process, the City is inviting them to participate in a Community Consultation Workshop for the Swan Regional Riverside Park, Woodbridge precinct, All Abilities Play Space.’’
Cr Holmes encouraged community members to attend a community consultation to become informed about the project and to give their opinion on the development.
The consultation will be held at the Midland Junction Arts Centre, 276 Great Eastern Highway, on Wednesday November 4 from 6pm until 9.30pm. Supper will be provided.
The play space will provide play opportunities for all ages, from age appropriate play for toddlers to challenging and exciting play for older children.
Cr Holmes said the play spaces would include creative and engaging play with water and sand, imaginative play in cubbies, as well as physical play such as swinging, sliding, climbing and spinning.
Their aim is to be accessible and provide inclusive play and social opportunities for people of all abilities, including people who use wheelchairs or who have other physical disabilities.
The theme of the play space is ‘Living on the Swan River’. The people, plants, animals, culture, history and ecology of the Swan River will be explored through themed play equipment, playable sculptures and sensory gardens, providing equipment based play areas and natural play environments.
“The City of Swan endeavors to provide exciting and enriching play spaces. However, the final design depends on many factors such as budget, best play value for money, how much space is available and making sure our playgrounds are safe and meet the Australian Standards,’’ Cr Holmes said.
“This play space is a major step forward in providing Perth with a first class regional park. “We are pleased to be able to offer our community the opportunity to take part in shaping this facility for the benefit of everyone who lives in and visits Perth”
Anyone interested in participating is asked to RSVP to Daniel Hanley 9267 9013, by Monday November 2.
