Paying your rates FAQs

To make it as easy as possible to pay your rates, the City of Swan offers several different options - you can pay online, over the phone, by post or in person. You also have the flexibility to pay your rates in full or by instalments.

There is a five per cent (5%) per annum interest charge for ratepayers entering into the formal rates instalment program (four instalments option).

If you cannot pay by one of the payment methods shown on the Annual Rate Notice (payment in full or payment by four instalments), we offer other informal payment options.

We can offer either a set weekly or fortnightly direct debit. You can submit your direct debit request through our Online Services Portal or alternatively contact the City's Rates Department on 9267 9160 to request a form.

As per the Local Government Act 1995, Council is able to charge penalty interest on late payments.

In the ordinary Council Meeting July 6, 2022, Council agreed to a five per cent (5%) per annum penalty interest charge to accrue daily on all overdue rates and specified area rates.

Emergency service levy (ESL) penalty interest will be accruing daily at seven per cent (11%) per annum on all overdue ESL charges as determined by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).
