Our local economy

The City of Swan continues to be one of the fastest growing local government areas in metropolitan Perth and it's not confined to our residential areas. Our business and industry sectors have also experienced significant growth, particularly over last 10 years with ongoing development in the Malaga industrial area, new investment and industrial development in Hazelmere, and considerable expansion of the retail and commercial areas in Midland and Ellenbrook.

The City actively supports local and new business, attracts new investment and strengthens the capacity and integration of the tourism industry. With our employment self-sufficiency at almost 100%, there are virtually as many jobs in Swan as there are employed residents.

Swan’s local economy continues to grow with our gross regional product (GRP) in excess of $9 billion, around 70,000 jobs, more than 10,000 businesses and continuing strength in the Construction, Retail, Manufacturing and Health Care/Social Assistance industries.
