Council Elections

Local government ordinary elections are held every two years, on the third Saturday in October. The next City of Swan election is scheduled for Saturday, 21 October 2017.

The City's elections are conducted as postal elections by the Western Australian Electoral Commission. The Commission appoints a Returning Officer who oversees the elections which includes taking candidate nominations and supervising the count on election night. The City's Returning Officer is Mr Adrian Malkovic.

Councillors are elected for four-year terms, with half of the Councillor’s terms concluding at each ordinary election.

The City of Swan currently has 15 Councillors representing six wards.

On election day in 2017, new ward boundaries will come into effect. This will reduce the number of wards from six to five, however the number of Councillors remains the same.
