Ellenbrook Youth Services

Electorate: Pearce

Cost: $5 million

Project overview

As the City of Swan’s population continues to grow, the need for adequate youth services has become a key element of our planning strategy.

Ellenbrook is one area of rapid population growth. Although the City has a youth centre in Ellenbrook, it is not a dedicated facility and it is located about 2km from the town centre.

A youth strategy, which is particularly aimed at Ellenbrook and surrounds, has been developed and recommends the need for additional youth services in the area, including a possible youth space in the Ellenbrook town centre.

The City strongly believes this facility will provide more opportunities for at-risk youths, leading to higher engagement in school, lower instances of anti-social behaviour and greater access to mental health support.

KEY POINTS

  • YOUNG PEOPLE AGED BETWEEN 10 AND 24 REPRESENT 21 PER CENT (8,200) OF THE ELLENBROOK POPULATION.
  • YOUTH CENTRES PROVIDE VITAL ACCESS TO RECREATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES, SUPPORT SERVICES AND SAFE SPACES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE.
