The Tracking service enables a user to obtain up to date information relating to a building or planning application that has been lodged with the City.

The information provided represents key milestones in the application process and is available for applications that were lodged after January 1, 2005.

Company users

If you are a company such as a builder, private certifier, architect or project manager who wishes to lodge an online building application, you first need to become a registered user. To do this please complete the registration form below.

A representative from the City will contact you within two working days to advise if your registration request has been successful. At this point we will provide you with your login details and an instruction manual. 

Building Applications:

Application type Description of application Time to determine an application
BA1 - Application for building permit - certified A Certified application must be accompanied by a Certificate of Design Compliance (BA3) which has been issued by a Building Surveyor and can be made for any class of building or incidental structure. 10 business days
BA2 - Application for building permit - uncertified An Uncertified application can be submitted to the City without a Certificate of Design Compliance (BA3) and can only be made for Class 1A and Class 10 building or incidental structures. 25 business days
BA5 - Application for demolition permit A Demolition Permit is required for the demolition, dismantling or removal of a building or incidental structure. 10 business days
BA9 - Application for occupancy permit

An Occupancy Permit must be obtained from the City before a Class 2 – 9 building can be occupied.

The Occupancy Permit must be accompanied by a Certificate of Construction Compliance (BA17) which has been issued by a Building Surveyor for new buildings, or a Certificate of Building Compliance (BA18) which has been issued by a Building Surveyor for existing building.

BA11 - Application for occupancy permit strata

An Occupancy Permit – Strata is required if you want to lodge a strata plan for registration or re-subdivide a lot in a strata scheme under the Strata Tiles Act 1985.

An Occupancy Permit – Strata is for Class 2 – 9 buildings and needs to be accompanied by a Certificate of Building Compliance (BA18) which has been issued by a Building Surveyor.

An Occupancy Permit – Strata does not authorise a person to occupy a building.

BA13 - Application for building approval certificate

A Building Approval Certificate is required to obtain approval for unauthorised building work associated with a Class 1 or 10 building or incidental structure.

The Building Approval Certificate must be accompanied by a Certificate of Building Compliance (BA18) which has been issued by a Building Surveyor.

BA15 - Application for building approval certificate strata

An Building Approval Certificate – Strata is required if you want to lodge a strata plan for registration or re-subdivide a lot in a strata scheme under the Strata Tiles Act 1985.

An Building Approval Certificate – Strata is for Class 1 and Class 10  buildings and incidental structures and  needs to be accompanied by a Certificate of Building Compliance (BA18) which has been issued by a Building Surveyor.

BA22 - Application to extend time - building or demolition permit An application to extend a building or demolition permit is required if you want to extend the validity period of the permit in order to complete your project.  10 business days
BA23 - Application to extend time - occupancy permit or building approval certificate An application to extend an occupancy permit or building approval certificate is required if you want to extend the validity period of your approval. 10 business days 

 

Residential Design Code:

Residential Design Code A Residential Design Code application is required when a proposed development does not comply with the ‘deemed to comply' criteria specified in the Residential Design Codes (State Planning Policy 3.1), the R-Codes Medium Density standards or a Detailed Area Plan (DAP). 25 business days 

 

Building Notices:

BA7 – Notice of completion

A Notice of Completion is required within 7 days of completing the building or demolition work.

The builder or demolition contractors named on the Permit is responsible for submitting the Notice of Completion (BA7) to the City.
