Overview

The City owns places that are considered to be of local cultural heritage significance. Conservation plans have been prepared and are regularly updated for each of these places.

The purpose of a conservation plan is to make an archaeological and historical assessment of a building or site (place). It states why the place is significant and what policies and management practices are to be put in place to ensure that its significance is retained.

Conservation plans that are current are available from the City's libraries for each of the following places:

  • Garrick Theatre (formerly Guildford Commissariat Store and Quarters
  • Guildford Courthouse (currently Swan Valley Visitor Centre

Heritage Strategic Plan

The Heritage Strategic Plan(PDF, 8MB) is an important document to guide and coordinate the City's approach to recognising, preserving and managing the cultural heritage of the district into the future. The strategic plan has strategies and actions under the key themes of knowing, protecting, supporting and promoting heritage.

As well as the Heritage Strategic Plan 2013, a background report assessing the City's current heritage management has been prepared. The Heritage Strategic Plan is reviewed every four years.
