New Councillor elected for Altone Ward

A new Councillor has been elected in the City of Swan following an extraordinary election in the Altone Ward.

Jennifer Catalano received 1,962 votes, to join current Mayor Cr David Lucas and Cr Andrew Kiely as an Altone Ward representative.

The other candidates – Mick Wainwright, Ric Purvis and Fiona Nichols - received 1,879, 1,258 and 341 votes respectively.

The extraordinary election took place after City of Swan CEO Mike Foley accepted the resignation of former Councillor Peter Lyndon-James in December last year.

Mr Foley congratulated Cr Catalano on her appointment.

“On behalf of the City, I would like to congratulate Cr Catalano on her appointment, and also thank everyone in the community who took part in the election and nominated for the vacancy,” he said.

“The election itself received a good turnout with over 31% of constituents taking part.

“I’m sure Cr Catalano will provide the Altone Ward with a strong voice and serve the community to improve the quality of life for those living there.”

Cr Catalano will join 14 other Councillors who represent the five Wards located in the City of Swan with her term running until October 16, 2021.

The first ordinary Council meeting that Cr Catalano will be involved in will take place on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 (adjourned from April 10).
