Local residents with a passion for their community are encouraged to consider running for the October local government elections.

Local government elections are held every two years with successful nominees serving on Council for a four year term.

Nominations open 8.00am Thursday, 2 September and close 4.00pm Thursday, 9 September.

The City will be filling seven vacancies across five wards in the October elections:

  • Altone Ward (2 vacancies)
  • Midland/Guildford Ward (1 vacancy)
  • Pearce Ward (2 vacancies)
  • Swan Valley/Gidgegannup Ward (1 vacancy)
  • Whiteman Ward (1 vacancy)

Prospective candidates wishing to nominate should contact the City's Returning Officer Adrian Malkovic on or 0437 063 477.

The City of Swan hosted three prospective Councillor seminars throughout August which were attended by more than 30 people interested in learning more about the election process.

City of Swan CEO Jeremy Edwards said he was impressed with the turnout at each seminar and looked forward to a healthy and respectful election campaign.

“It was great to see so many people seek information and guidance on the nomination process and the role of being a Councillor,” he said.

“The City is happy to share this information with interested parties and provide a forum for them to arm themselves with the information they need to help them make an informed decision whether to run for Council.

“I encourage passionate City of Swan people to consider running for Council and I look forward to seeing a diverse range of individuals with a wealth of expertise that can be brought to our Council.

“I wish all nominees the best of luck in their campaign.”
