New food business
Food businesses are no longer required to submit an application for approval to the City’s Health Services. It is, however, their responsibility to ensure they comply with the legislative requirements and to submit either a New Food Business Registration Form(PDF, 418KB) or a Notification for an Exempt Food Business Form(PDF, 162KB) prior to operating.
The City has developed A Guideline to the Structural Requirements of Food Premises(PDF, 947KB) to assist businesses to meet their requirements. The purpose of the guidelines is to assist prospective food business proprietors to meet their legislative obligations when fitting-out or constructing a food premises.
I’m ALERT is an interactive food safety training tool which conforms with WA’s Food Act (2008) and the Food Standards Australia New Zealand to ensure that food is handled in a safe and hygienic manner.
When establishing a food business, it is important to make yourself aware of the approvals, permits and licences issued by the City. People are often unaware that planning and building approvals are also required.
