Woodbridge was formerly known as West Midland. The suburb derives its name from family property, belonging to Governor Stirling’s wife, in Surrey, England. Woodbridge House was built in 1885 and handed over to the National Trust in 1967. The West Midland Railway Station was constructed in 1903 and still exists today as the Woodbridge Train Station.
