About the program

The Rural Revegetation Program offers native plants free to eligible City of Swan residents.

The Rural Revegetation Program aims to supply plants to residents in rural areas to encourage revegetation of their properties using native species. These plants are adapted to Perth region's soils and climate and have low watering requirements.

Who is eligible for the program?

The program is available to residents whose property in the City of Swan is 4,000 square metres (1 acre) or greater in size. Proof of identity will be requested as part of the application process to determine your eligibility.

This year we are expanding the Rural Revegetation Program's eligibility criteria to include City of Swan residents whose properties have been affected by the Wooroloo bushfires. If you fall into this category, you can claim a larger allocation of plants. Subscribe to this page to be notified  when the applications opens each year.

What types of plants are available?

A range of trees, shrubs of various sizes, groundcovers and wetland/creek species are available. They are all natives and are well suited to our climate. You can view the Rural Revegetation Brochure 2021(PDF, 4MB) to see which trees are available.

How many plants are given away?

The City has engaged Trillion Trees (formally Men of the Trees) to grow approximately 30,000 trees, shrubs and groundcovers, which will be available for eligible residents. These will complement the City’s natural environment. Over the fifteen years it has been running, the scheme has distributed around 150,000 plants to City residents.
