The City conducts assessments of some industrial and commercial businesses to determine compliance with current state and local law legislation.
The aim of these assessments is to ensure that business operators are aware of their obligations regarding material storage and discharges and to work with them to achieve compliance with these requirements. Many stormwater soakwells and drains overflow into the City’s road stormwater system and contamination of these drains could result in pollution of the waterways and wetlands that feed into the Swan River. The inspections also help ensure that for those businesses doing the right thing are not being adversely impacted by competitors doing the wrong thing and trying to cut costs.
Environmental Health Officers are Authorised Officers under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and have the power to make investigations and require works to be completed in order to comply with current legislative requirements.
If you own or operate a business in the City, the onus is on you to ensure that you are aware of and complying with these requirements. Queries regarding these can be directed to an Environmental Health Officer from the City on 9267 9267.
