FOGO is coming in 2022/2023 - Changing to a three bin system

In 2022/2023 the City of Swan will move from a two bin system to a three bin system. Some other Councils are moving to the new system earlier, due to a staggered roll-out across Perth.

The new Waste, Recycling and FOGO System will help us to keep more waste out of landfill.

  • Reduction in landfill: The new FOGO kerbside system will assist us to reduce landfill. The WA State Government has set a target for 70% of waste to be diverted from landfill by 2025 and FOGO will help us all to meet this target.
  • Using organic waste: Organic waste is a problem in landfill as it produces methane, a harmful greenhouse gas that is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Turning the organic waste into compost will reduce the impact on the environment and will allow organic waste to become a usable product.
  •  Over time you will save money. In future, waste disposal will cost more as taxes on landfill increase. Diverting organic waste from landfill won't cost your Council as much, saving you money in the long term.

  • Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Meat
  • Seafood
  • Bones
  • Dairy products
  • Eggshells
  • Bread
  • Pasta
  • Cereals
  • Oils and fats (small quantities)
  • Tea bags
  • Coffee grinds
  • Table scraps

Garden waste including:

  • Lawn clippings
  • Garden prunings
  • Leaves
  • Weeds
  • Flowers

Other items including:

  • Animal droppings
  • Kitty litter
  • Hair
  • Tissues
  • Shredded Paper
  • Paper products and cardboard not clean enough for recycling

Your new 240 litre FOGO bin (green lid) will be collected weekly.

Your 240 litre recycling bin (yellow lid) will be collected fortnightly. You can upgrade to a 360 litre recycling bin if you contact the City. 

Your 240 litre (or 140 litre) general waste bin (red lid) will be collected fortnightly.
