Our Graduate Engineer Program provides recent graduates with opportunities to develop professional skills, undertake tailored learning and development activities, and receive mentoring from senior staff.
Not only will you gain invaluable experience, you will also be making a difference to improve the quality of life of our diverse community. You will work on important community projects from day one, with real responsibilities and real outcomes.
Graduates rotate every 6-12 months gaining experience in the following operational areas:
- Engineering construction
- Project management
- Civil design
- Asset management
- Sub-divisional and drainage engineering
- Facility management
- Parks and landscaping
- Construction and maintenance
- Fleet management
- Waste and recycling services
- Traffic engineering.
Interested individuals should be community-minded, high academic achievers, possess strong leadership skills and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
There are no set dates for the program and positions can made be available at any time of year.

Meet Development Engineer, Moe Swaid
Say g'day to Moe Swaid, Development Engineer at the City of Swan.
Moe started working at the City in early 2020 as part of the Graduate Engineer Program and hasn't looked back.
Working for one of the largest metropolitan local governments in Western Australia means Moe get the opportunity to work in diverse places with real rewards and learn from some of the best in the industry.

Meet Project Manager, Sinead McGuire
Say g'day to Sinead McGuire, City of Swan Graduate Engineer Program alumni.
Sinead joined the City's graduate program in mid 2018 where she spent 18 months working her way through different divisions and developing her skills before landing in a project manager role.
As a high-growth local government, Sinead has worked on a number of large City of Swan infrastructure projects including Dayton Wetlands and Dayton Neighbourhood Park.
Sinead recently landed the position of Executive Manager of Infrastructure and Development Services at the Shire of York.

Meet Civil Engineer, Matt Southern
Say g'day to Matthew Southern, City of Swan Graduate Engineer Program alumni.
Having grown up in the local area, Matt wanted to work at the City of Swan as a way of contributing to his community.
Matt worked in Leisure Services while studying at university, before joining the Graduate Engineer Program where he was the Executive Assistant to the Executive Manager of Operations.
During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Perth, Matt helped lead the day-to-day management and the implementation of the City’s $8.85 million stimulus package.
Eleven years into his career at the City, Matt is now the Manager of Construction and Maintenance.

Meet Construction and Maintenance Engineer, Katelyn Palfrey
Say g'day to Katelyn Palfrey, Construction and Maintenance Engineer at the City of Swan.
A fresh face in the team, Katelyn joined the City's Graduate Engineer Program in early 2021 and has gone from strength-to-strength.
Working for one of the largest metropolitan local governments in Western Australia means Katelyn gets to see the difference she's making in the community first-hand and work on projects that align with her interests from start to completion.
