Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy (Policy) outlines how the City of Swan manages personal information and protects privacy. 

This Policy replaces all previous versions effective from the date of its first publication. The City of Swan updates the Policy from time to time and recommends reviewing it regularly.

In this Privacy Statement (Statement):

The City means the City of Swan 

The City’s Websites means any of the websites run by the City, including but not limited to   www.swan.wa.gov.au, Swan Engage and the City’s rates portal.

User means a person who uses any City Website. 

This Statement provides information regarding the use of the City’s Websites and the privacy of its Users and their information. The City values the privacy of its customers and stakeholders and manages the privacy risks of the information it collects about them.

There are risks associated with the transmission of data through the internet. Users should make their own judgement of the potential risks when deciding to use the City’s website.

Handling of personal information

The City collects, uses, stores, shares, and disposes of personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy

Site data collected 

When Users visit the City’s Websites, the City logs a record of the visit and information about the User. The City records this information:

  • for statistical purposes 
  • to monitor use of the City’s Websites 
  • to monitor what information is most and least used; and 
  • to customise and improve the site for Users. 

The information collected when Users access the City’s Websites includes:

  • details of the server and internet provider users are accessing the City’s Websites from;
  • details of user’s access of the City’s Websites;
  • details of the operating systems, devices and software used to access the City’s Websites; and
  • Details of any other website, social media platform, code or link that directed the user to the City’s Websites.

Cookies 

Cookies are pieces of information or small files that the City’s website sends to a User’s device to record a user’s preferences when browsing the City’s Websites.

 A cookie may remain on a User’s device after the internet session finishes. 

The City’s Websites uses cookies for the following purposes:

  • Security – to enable features that help detect security threats. 
  • Customisation – to recognise returning Users for measurement purposes and to better customize content to User preferences. 
  • Verification – to verify Users and tailor content to those who have an account or have logged into the City’s services. 
  • Digital marketing and functionality – to record how Users navigate the City’s Websites, including page views and usage data, and to customise content and deliver relevant digital communications. The City may use this data in conjunction with data received from other channels to share relevant advertisements. 

Social Media 

The City uses third party social media websites and applications to perform its functions. 

Each social media site has its own privacy policies. 

Google analytics 

Google Analytics is a service provided by Google, Inc. (Google).

When Google is used as a browser, Google Analytics uses cookies and tracking codes to help analyse how users use the City’s website. The information generated is transmitted to and stored on servers in the United States.

The City will use Google Analytics to:

  • evaluate use of the City’s website and mobile site
  • receive reports for the City on website activity; and
  • provide other services relating to website activity and Internet usage. 

Google has their own privacy policies.

Third party links 

The City’s website contains links to third party websites. This statement does not apply if a user accesses a link and exits the City’s website. 

The City is not responsible for services or information on third party websites.
