Bulk waste verge collections

City of Swan residents can request two verge collections for domestic bulk waste each financial year. Additionally, up to three mattresses can be pre-booked for collection.

Verge collections are for items that cannot be reused, repaired, or rehomed. The general waste items for your verge collections will go to landfill. Green waste, metal, e-waste and mattresses are resources we can recover and take to processing facilities.

Before booking your verge collection consider repairing, donating, selling, swapping or reusing your quality items.

For large bulky items, some organisations offer a free collection service.

Book or change a verge collection

Before booking a verge collection, consider whether your items could be donated, reused or recycled.

Repair and reuse

Is it too good to go in the bin? Then it’s too good for a verge collection.

There are plenty of services or groups that can help fix or pass on your items to be reused, such as:
  • Repair café
  • Garage Sale Trail
  • Gumtree
  • Facebook Marketplace
  • Buy Nothing Facebook Groups
  • Recycling Centre – Bullsbrook Reuse Shop.

Donate

Gifted items must be clean and not broken or stained because charities can’t fix broken things or wash clothes. A good rule is to ask yourself if you’d give it to a friend. To be sure, check out this handy A-Z guide.

Great organisations to donate to include:
  • Bikes for Humanity
  • Rebel Sport – sport shoes
  • Sheridan – quilt-covers, sheets and towels can be dropped off at their in-store bins (some incentives may apply)
  • Priceline Pharmacy – recycles empty makeup containers
  • H&M – take unwanted clothing that they separate into clothing that can be re-worn, reused, or recycled (some incentives may apply).
Charities that offer home collection services for larger items:
  • Vinnies
  • Good Sammy
  • Salvos.

Once you’ve done what you can to repair and rehome items, it’s time to book your verge collection.

Before booking a collection, please refer to the terms and conditions outlined on this page.
It is very important to select the right types of items that will be put out when you complete your booking. If you don’t do this correctly, some items may not be collected.

Note: Rural properties are not eligible to book verge collections. These properties are given a residential bulk waste disposal pass instead. However, you can still book a mattress collection.

We understand how frustrating it can be when you can’t find a suitable booking. Providing waste services across a large area of 1,042km² presents a significant challenge, and although we strive to offer as many bookings as possible, there are times when demand exceeds availability.

To address this, the City works with contractors to provide additional collection slots. However, there may still be instances when available times don’t match your preferred schedule.

If this is the case, we encourage you to visit one of our recycling centres in Bullsbrook or Malaga. Residents have unlimited free* access to these centres, where you can drop off recyclable items* at your convenience.

Visit our recycling centres page for more information.

*Accepted items only
*Some fees and charges apply
*Trucks and commercial loads are not accepted at any of our centres.
