The creativity and ingenuity of local rural artists was recognised at the fourth Australian Rustic Farm Art Awards.
The awards, run by the Gidgegannup Agricultural Society with the support of the City of Swan, were presented at the 2025 Gidgegannup Show on October 25.
The awards were established in 2022 to provide a creative outlet for the Perth Hills community after the devastating Wooroloo bushfire.
Industry judges Lee Potter and Dee Robinson assessed 28 works of art made of scrap metal, broken machinery parts, timber and other farm-related materials to fit this year’s theme Heritage of the Hills.
Leigh Shersby won the $3500 Bendigo Community Bank Mundaring Overall Award and the Gidgegannup Agricultural Society People’s Choice Award for his sculpture Bluey.
Judges commended the “expert balance in both form and concept, blending strength and delicacy with remarkable skill.”
Additional winners:
$1000 RNA Fabrications local artist award
• Heather Barrett for her sculpture Country Women
$1000 Michelle Maynard MLA and Dr Parwinder Kaur MLC youth award
• Dyllon Church for his artwork The Butterfly.
