Sell it, seek it, save it from landfill: The Garage Sale Trail is back again

It’s time again for the City of Swan’s second-hand sellers and bargain seekers to follow the Garage Sale Trail, Australia’s biggest thrifty treasure hunt.

Held over the weekends of November 7–8 and 14–15, the Garage Sale Trail will see millions of pre-loved items put up for sale across Australia.

That means extra money for sellers, affordable finds for shoppers and tonnes of usable items kept out of landfill. It’s good for your wallet, your community and the environment.

In 2025, 3,009 City of Swan residents joined the Garage Sale Trail as sellers or shoppers across nearly 150 local events. More than 6,760kg was diverted from landfill.

Sellers cleared clutter, made extra money and gave unwanted items a new home. Shoppers found bargains and unique vintage treasures, while neighbours connected and shared reuse ideas.

Registrations for this year’s trail open on September 1, and it’s free for City of Swan residents to take part. You don’t need a garage or even a front yard.

You can sell from home for one day or the whole weekend, join a local market or team up with neighbours for a thrifty street party. Schools, clubs and charities can also hold sales to raise funds while supporting a more sustainable community.

Registered sellers receive free tips, promotional materials and support to help attract shoppers and make their sale a success.

Taking part is about more than finding a bargain. Giving pre-loved items another life reduces waste, saves households money, supports local fundraising and brings the community together.

Ready to clear some space and make some cash? Register your sale in the City of Swan

Can’t host a sale? You can still follow the trail, meet your neighbours and hunt for your next second-hand treasure.
