True Sport for clubs

True Sport is a values-based initiative that supports community sport across Western Australia. It is delivered by SportWest and helps clubs, volunteers, families and local governments build positive, safe and inclusive sporting environments.

True Sport offers practical tools, training and campaigns that address common issues in community sport, such as sideline behaviour, mental health and child safety.

True Sports values

True Sport is built around clear, everyday values that clubs can adopt and promote.

Examples include:

  • Show respect
  • Include all
  • Have fun
  • Be safe
  • Play fair
  • Give back.

Clubs can use these values to guide behaviour on and off the field, in policies and in everyday decision-making.

True Sport provides a range of easy-to-use resources for clubs, including:
  • Toolkits and workshops, to promote positive sideline behaviour
  • Mental health, wellbeing, and e-learning resources to support volunteers, coaches, and players
  • Relationship programs that focus on fostering safety, inclusion, and gender respect in sport
  • Child safeguarding guidance to ensure the safety of junior participants
  • Training and capacity building initiatives, such as webinars, guides, and on-field resources, to empower club administrators and coaches.
These resources are designed so clubs can pick what they need and put it into practice straight away.

Using True Sport can help clubs in the City of Swan to:
  • Enhance club culture and safety by applying clear values to shape behaviour, reduce conflict, and create a welcoming, family-friendly environment
  • Support volunteers and members with mental health tools to prevent burnout and safeguard the welfare of coaches, players, and volunteers
  • Strengthen governance with templates and training that complement the City of Swan’s Club Hub, improving codes of conduct, planning, and volunteer management
  • Build a strong community reputation to demonstrate commitment to safe, respectful sport to families, members, and sponsors
  • Align with funding and facility priorities using a recognised, statewide framework to support grants, facility requests, and partnerships with the City of Swan and State Sporting Associations.
