Youth services and programs

Our Youth Development Team recognises and supports young people’s unique talents and strengths. We work with communities to ensure all young people have access to the resources and relationships they need to thrive.

Youth Development

The City of Swan Youth Development team (YD) offers a range of programs, events and opportunities for young people aged 12-25 years to support their personal development and enable them to be active, socially connected and participate in meaningful activities.

Youth Development Officers

Youth Development Officer’s (YDO’s) are locally based and work with young people and the community to promote engagement with young people, develop leadership and connections with communities, and build local support networks for young people.

Ask your local YDO about:

  • Delivering/supporting programs and activities
  • Youth leadership opportunities
  • Improving local Youth services, facilities, and events
  • Finding out what young people want for and in their community
  • Getting young people involved in your project or event
  • Partnering with local Youth services, facilities, and events to deliver opportunities
  • Grant applications support.

The Youth Development team is able to provide professional youth work support and advice to the wider community; promote, facilitate and support youth projects; build connections and provide training based on young people and the youth sector needs.

Youth Programs

Our Place is a social drop-in program for LGBTIQA+ young people aged 12 to 25.

A Safe Space collaboration between the City of Swan, Youth Focus and headspace Midland, it’s a place where young people can feel safe to hang out, relax, have fun and connect with others from the LGBTIQA+ community.

We make everyone feel welcome, respected, accepted and valued regardless of gender, race, sexuality, beliefs and ability.

Co-designed with youth consultants from within our community, Our Place is co-led by Peer Mentors. All staff and Peer Mentors are trained in inclusive practices and can provide support, information and resources.

We are all individuals, and in this space we choose to celebrate the diverse uniqueness that makes us who we are.

Join us on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:30pm at headspace Midland, 7/64 Morrison Road, Midland (excluding school holidays and the first week of term).

Our libraries offer a range of workshops and activities for young people aged 13+ aimed at embracing their creativity, developing new skills and connecting with their community.

Youth Leadership

The YD team supports local initiatives which enable young people to have their say and be actively involved in their community, while building formal opportunities for young people to advocate to Council, State Government, or other decision makers.

Swan Youth Crew (SYC) is a Youth Leadership Committee consisting of representative young people from across the City of Swan. The YD team plays a critical role in supporting and developing young people on the SYC to ensure they are able to have a voice and keep Council informed on current and emerging youth concerns, needs and goals. If you are a young person aged between 12-25 years and wish to be involved, please contact the YDO in your area.

The Youth Development team also support youth committees in some of the place areas. Information about their events and activities can be found on their socials.
