How it works
Here’s how it works:
- Bring freshly washed, good-quality clothing, shoes and jewellery for others to enjoy
- Browse and take home items you love. You don’t need to bring anything to take something home
- Bring a reusable bag for your finds.
Why clothes swaps?
Australia buys and throws away a lot of clothing. On average, each Australian consumes around 55 items of new clothing each year and sends around 200,000 tonnes of clothing to landfill each year. Australia is also one of the highest textile consumers per person in the world.
In Western Australia, an estimated 2.6 million tonnes of waste went to landfill in 2022 to 2023, showing why practical reuse actions matter at a local level.
Clothes Swaps help respond to this by keeping wearable clothing in circulation. When clothes stay in use longer, fewer textiles go to landfill and fewer new items need to be bought. That is the idea behind full circle fashion.
