Appeal your infringement

Check the due date

If you have received a parking infringement, you must either pay your infringement or appeal it, prior to the due date on the infringement notice.

Include the following details

Details which need to be included in your appeal are:

  • Your name and address
  • Infringement notice number
  • Date of notice
  • Vehicle registration number
  • Return address and phone number
  • Photocopies of all relevant supporting documentation (eg Police Offence Report number if the vehicle had been stolen at the time of the alleged offence).  
  • Detailed reasons why you believe an appeal should be granted.

Appeals may be accepted by the following methods, as long as a residential address is supplied to enable a response to be sent.

Appeals cannot be accepted by phone.  

Keep a personal record 

We recommend you retain a copy for your own records until the matter is resolved. All appeals are lodged and processed through an appeal administration system. A letter of response advising the outcome of the appeal will be posted to you within 28 days of receiving your appeal. 

Nominate another driver

Check your infringement notice date

If you were not the driver of the vehicle at the time the infringement was incurred, you have 28 days from the infringement notice date to nominate the actual driver.

Complete one of the following

You will need complete either:

  • the reverse side of the 'Notice to Registered Owner of Vehicle' letter 
    OR
  • a statutory declaration with the driver's full name and current address. 

Get it signed

If completing a statutory declaration it will need to be witnessed by a person authorised to witness a statutory declaration or a Justice of the Peace.

Appealing the parking infringement

Take the matter to Court

Should you wish to have a parking infringement heard in the Magistrates' Court please complete the “Application for action by a court” section on the reverse side of your 'Notice to Registered Owner of Vehicle' letter, or simply advise the City in writing.
