*Please note the list of impounded animals is only updated during the pound's opening hours, and details of animals are usually removed after seven days.

All impounded animals are checked for registration and microchip identification on arrival. Cat Identification must be via a collar and a microchip. The collar must have the cat’s name and your current address and telephone number. Microchips must contain your name, current address and telephone number.

The Pound maintains identifiable animals for a maximum period of up to seven days. If any details are obtained, correspondence is sent to the last known owner/address. After this, the animal may be re-homed, sold or humanely put down.

Please ensure you provide photographic identification when wishing to collect your animal.

All fees must be paid in full before the animal is released. If your cat or dog is unregistered, it must also be registered before it can be released form the pound.

Straying cats

Straying cats or cats wandering from one property to another can become a real nuisance to other residents and property owners. Apart from the usual issues of fighting, howling and spraying, they can also cause damage to private property (eg scratched cars).

To help prevent this issue, you can buy cat deterrents from your local pet shop.

Alternatively, you can borrow cat traps from the City of Swan, which will safely impound the cat for removal.  Please note, there is a waiting list for cat traps and conditions apply, which will be explained to you by one of our Community Safety Advocates at the time.
