Rainbow reads

Event description

Rainbow Reads is a collaboration between Our Place and City of Swan Libraries.

It is a queer book club for LGBTQIA+SB young people aged 13 to 18. We will meet on the 3rd Thursday of every month at the Midland Library from 4:30 to 5:30pm.

A new book will be chosen every month and we will have lots of time to dive deep into all things queer literature.

With a City of Swan Library Membership all books will be provided (starting with ebooks). Book club members do not need to bring anything along to the group, a library staff member will facilitate discussion and some light snacks will be provided.

Each month in 2026 we will have a theme or event which will inform that month's session. Below are our upcoming themes:
  • February 19 – Pointless PowerPoint with a Point (must have a book connection) 10 mins max each
  • March 19 – Favourite Trans/Gender Diverse Character
  • April 23 – Flag craft (international Asexuality Day + Lesbian Day of Visibility)
  • May 21 – Crafting with old books
  • June 18 – Guest author TBA
  • August 20 – Song writing workshop with a special guest TBA
  • September 18 – Presentation on your favourite book character
  • October 15 – Halloween Edition. Memorial to favourite book series, movie, tv series
