You do not need approval to keep bees unless it is for commercial purposes or requires a more substantial operation to conduct what is considered minor and ancillary. View our bee keeping factsheet to find out about requirements, including those surrounding selling honey.

Swarming is a natural process that mostly occurs on warm sunny days from May to July between 11am and 4pm.
The swarm often gathers on nearby tree branches or structures while scout bees search for a new home.
However, during wet weather a swarm may stay in its resting place for several days.
If you encounter a bee swarm, please remain calm, and avoid disturbing them. As this swarming process is seasonal, a change in your routine may be required to avoid unnecessary contact during this time.
If a hive is cause for concern, or you require further information, contact us.
If you are experiencing a problem from a beehive on a neighbouring property, we would encourage you to discuss this with your neighbour. If that fails, contact us.
