In Western Australia, all dogs over three months of age must be registered with a Local Government.
The City promotes responsible ownership of dogs in our community and our Rangers ensure dogs are registered and microchipped. All dog owners must comply with the Dog Act 1976.
Please note, dog registration period ends on October 31 of the year of expiry.

Dog registrations are valid throughout Western Australia. If you move to another local government area, you must complete the relevant dog registration transfer paperwork.
If you change address, contact both the Central Animal Records Registry on (02) 9704 1450 and the City of Swan to update your details.
Important: Updating the address on your pet's record does not update the property owner's address. To update the property owner's address, complete the change of address form
Dogs aged three months and over must be microchipped, unless exempt.
A microchip provides permanent identification and allows lost dogs to be identified at any time. Dogs taken to the City's animal management facility are scanned for microchips to help reunite them with their owners.
Contact your veterinarian for information about microchipping your dog.
A dog may only be exempt from microchipping if a veterinarian issues a certificate stating that implantation may adversely affect the dog's health and welfare.
