Bins

Holding an event in Swan? We encourage you to offer recycling bins to patrons, and why not collect used containers to raise money via Containers for Change.

Party kits

We hire out free reusable party kits. These have tableware that can be used for events including reusable cutlery, plates, cups and bowls. You can book kits for up to one week. Collection is at the City of Swan depot, 212 Great Northern Highway, Middle Swan.

Please contact us to check availability before completing the hire form.

Be a good sort and recycle only these five things. Please rinse and sort them correctly:

  • Cans
  • Plastic
  • Glass
  • Paper 
  • Cardboard.

The following items should NOT be put in your household recycling bin:

  • Meat trays 
  • Aerosol cans
  • Coffee cups
  • Soft plastics.

A Containers for Change refund point is open at the Bullsbrook Recycling Centre, 121 Stock Road, Bullsbrook, 6084.

Keeping items out of landfill you can lower your environmental footprint and help save ratepayer money. Our two recycling centres allow residents to recycle items such as furniture, clothing, mobile phones and more at no cost.

The Green Room is a dedicated recycling room that provides a convenient place to recycle while at the shopping centre.

The following materials are accepted:

  • Cardboard
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Household (dry cell) batteries

This is a locked room, to book, contact Centre Management on (08) 9297 0300 or visit the Centre Management office within the shopping centre.

Businesses can apply for a larger recycling bin with a capacity of 660L. There is a one-off establishment cost. Please contact us to discuss.

Businesses located in the City of Swan can apply to use the Malaga Recycling Centre twice each year. Eligible businesses are those that pay a City of Swan waste and recycling charge and have a set of City of Swan general waste and recycling bins.

If your business is eligible, please complete the registration form. Passes will be posted to your business once your application is approved.

To support Western Australia’s e-waste to landfill ban, the City of Swan has upgraded the Community Resource Recovery Stations at select libraries and facilities. These stations make it easy to safely recycle small electronic items and more.

  • Beechboro Public Library, 332 Benara Road, Beechboro
  • Bullsbrook Public Library, Ethel Warren Bullsbrook Community Centre, 3 Maroubra Avenue, Bullsbrook
  • City of Swan Administration Office, 2 Midland Square, Midland
  • Ellenbrook District Open Space – North Pavilion, 27 Maffina Parade, Ellenbrook
  • (no batteries, mobile phones, tablets or laptops)
  • Ellenbrook Community Library, 90 Main Street, Ellenbrook
  • Gidgegannup Mens Shed Inc., 2171 Toodyay Road, Gidgegannup
  • (no batteries, mobile phones, tablets or laptops)
  • Midland Public Library, 45 Helena Street, Midland.

You can recycle:
  • Batteries (tape battery terminals before recycling to reduce fire risk)
  • Light globes (not fluoro tubes)
  • Printer cartridges
  • Empty aerosols
  • Small e-waste (that fits into a 250x100mm opening). Before dropping off, please remove any batteries. Examples include:
    • Hair dryers, electric toothbrushes
    • Remote controls, headphones, speakers
    • Small electronic toys.

Residents can drop off larger e-waste items including computers, TVs, computer accessories and power tools for free at the recycling centres in Malaga and Bullsbrook.
