Stratton was named after John Peter Stratton, an Australian farmer and businessman who owned some of the land in the area during the early 1900s. Development of Stratton by the Shire of Swan and Homeswest saw the first residents move into the area in 1991. The Talbot Road Nature Reserve is located across the suburbs of Stratton and Swan View and is the only remaining publicly-owned bushland of its type in Perth. As such, the reserve is listed on the Register of the National Estate.
