We conduct assessments of some industrial and commercial businesses to determine compliance with current state and local law legislation.
The aim of these assessments is to ensure that business operators are aware of their obligations regarding material storage and discharges and to work with them to achieve compliance with these requirements.
Waste material must be removed by licensed waste contractors. Liquid waste must not be disposed of onsite unless approval to do so has been granted in writing by the City of Swan. Approval to dispose of liquid waste on site will only be granted in areas where sewer is not available.
An Application to construct or install an apparatus for the treatment of sewage must be submitted to the City and approval granted before any waste can be legally discharged onsite.
Under the Environmental Protection (Unauthorised Discharges) Regulations it is an offence to discharge certain materials into the environment. This includes hydrocarbons (petrol and diesel), degreasers, paint and detergents.
Washing down machinery, vehicles or equipment must be done in an approved wash down bay facility. For properties connected to sewer this will require approval from the Water Corporation for a trade waste permit. For properties without sewer, approval from the City will be required by lodging an Application(open in new window) to construct or install an apparatus for the disposal of sewage.

Abrasive blasting and spray-painting must be conducted so dust and overspray does not enter the environment. The following legislation must be complied with.
