The City of Swan is celebrating the official opening of new changerooms at Swan Active Midland, providing a new range of accessible and family-friendly features.

Designed to better meet community needs and improve functionality, the project involved constructing an extension to the existing aquatic centre and offers:
  • An open changing area off the main pool deck with showers
  • Five wet family change cubicles
  • Five dry family change cubicles
  • An adult change facility
  • A universal access toilet
  • A dedicated storeroom.

Project funding of $1.7 million was received from the Federal government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program (LRCI) to complete the $2.1 million project.

The LRCI supports Australian councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects, creating jobs and long-lasting benefits for communities.

Swan Active Midland reopened in May 2024 after a major three-year refurbishment, featuring accessibility improvements like a ramp for wheelchairs in the indoor aquatic area.

The facility has been a home of fitness and fun since opening in its original form in 1980 as the Midland Regional Sports Centre. At the time, it was the largest indoor sports facility in Western Australia.

Tanya Richardson, City of Swan Mayor, said the changerooms formed a major part of the ongoing comprehensive upgrade of Swan Active Midland.

“The new changerooms mark another milestone in the development of Swan Active Midland, and we’re hugely grateful to the Federal government’s LRCI initiative for their contribution to these new facilities,” she said.

Tania Lawrence MP, Member for Hasluck, said "these state-of-the-art facilities are visible evidence of the Federal government’s commitment towards improving accessibility and inclusivity for every member of our community."
