Another major milestone towards the completion of Swan Active Ellenbrook has been reached with the award of the tender for the construction of the $145 million facility.
Tender winner ADCO was selected for its extensive expertise in delivering large-scale projects, including many for local governments.
As the City’s largest project to date, Swan Active Ellenbrook is designed to meet the needs of the rapidly growing community in Perth’s eastern corridor.
Development plans include a range of sporting and leisure facilities, with the aquatic area boasting 50m and 25m pools, warm water pools, small toddler pools, four waterslides, a small grandstand, change rooms, significant shade sails, and barbecue and family areas.
The recreation area will feature a sports hall with indoor multi-purpose courts, a gym and fitness centre, a wellness centre, family facilities, a creche, and a kiosk with kitchen facilities.
The project, due for completion in 2027, will see site occupancy starting in the coming months.
In accepting the tender – and to ensure the full project scope could be delivered – the Council resolved to increase its financial contribution to $95 million.
The State Government increased its grant funding by $8 million, to an overall contribution of $20 million, in addition to providing the site for the facility.
The Commonwealth Government has contributed $30 million and has also brought forward the timing of its grant contribution.
The Hon Rita Saffioti, MLA, Deputy Premier, said she was proud to see this project move from vision to reality, with the award for tender marking a major milestone.
“The proposed leisure centre will bring much-needed recreational and aquatic facilities to a prime location at the heart of Ellenbrook’s growing transport hub,” she said.
Tania Lawrence MP, Member for Hasluck, said the awarding of the construction tender shows what can be achieved when all three levels of government work together to deliver for the community.
“It’s exciting to see real progress on one of the largest recreation and aquatic facilities in our region, designed with the community’s needs in mind and set to provide the high-quality space they truly deserve,” she said.
Michelle Maynard MLA, Member for Swan Hills, said with the construction tender now awarded, it’s one step closer to the delivery of this much-anticipated project.
“I’m also pleased to see the City progressing plans for the next stage, furthering the activation of the heart of Ellenbrook," she said.
Tanya Richardson, City of Swan Mayor, said it was a cause for celebration to see another significant move towards the project’s conclusion.
"With the Ellenbrook area continuing to experience rapid growth, this is exactly the sort of facility needed to boost social inclusion, cohesion and community wellbeing,” she said.
“We couldn’t have done this without the tremendous support we have received from the State and Commonwealth Governments.
“The additional financial assistance, along with the City’s commitment, has ensured the community’s needs will be fully met.”
The project build time is around 108 weeks, and further project updates will be provided during this time.
