Traffic changes on Barkers Bridge to enable repairs

Community City and Council
Published on: Friday, April 17, 2026

Drivers are being advised of changes to traffic conditions on Barkers Bridge (West Swan Road between Guildford and the Swan Valley) after structural issues were found during a routine inspection.

To allow for a safe assessment, from 3pm Friday, April 17, 2026, the bridge will be reduced to one lane, with temporary traffic lights in place to control traffic flows.

The changes are needed because the bridge is too narrow to safely carry two-way traffic during assessment and repair works.

While a specialist consultant carries out a detailed assessment of the bridge, these traffic arrangements will stay in place

After the assessment, more time will be needed to plan and carry out repairs, including hiring a contractor. The time needed will depend on the extent of works, as well as contractor availability and weather.

Delays are expected and traffic conditions may change as work progresses.

Safety is the main priority, while keeping the bridge open to traffic where possible.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and use alternative routes. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
