The City of Swan, in conjunction with the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries, is committed to developing sport and recreation clubs within the City of Swan. The City of Swans’ Club Development and Sustainable Swan Clubs Program is designed to address broader club management issues, assist sporting clubs in achieving self-sufficiency and ensure that clubs are given every opportunity to run effectively and efficiently. The City of Swan aims to establish a partnership between the City and local sport and recreation groups to enhance the delivery of sport and recreation in our community.
To achieve these outcomes, the City of Swan will provide a variety of resources, including workshops and seminars.
The City of Swan Club Development Program will consist of:
- A dedicated Club Development Staff member available to assist clubs and groups.
- Club Development Workshops – A variety of workshops will be made available to members of local community sporting groups. If there are any specific workshop topics you think would benefit your sporting group, please don’t hesitate to contact your Club Development Officer and provide suggestions.
- Strategic Planning Program – Opportunities for Clubs to work with a professional consultant to deliver a tailor-made strategic plan for their club.
- Club Development Calendar.
The City of Swan is currently experiencing high levels of growth. In order to prepare the community for the exciting times ahead, the City aims to assist your club with information and guidance on sponsorship, fundraising, grants, event management, planning, marketing and promotions, membership, and volunteer training.
The City’s Strategic Planning Series is an opportunity for a select number of clubs to work with a dedicated and experienced strategic planning consultant to develop a three-year strategic plan for their club, as well as an operational plan.
These workshops are made possible thanks to grant funding from the DLGSC.
Interested clubs will be required to attend an information evening where the consultant and City staff will discuss requirements and expectations during the development of the plan, which takes eight weeks. At the end of the information session, interested clubs will be required to complete an expression of interest (EOI) form and demonstrate how the plan will be implemented and used in their club. For example, these plans may be used to obtain funding, increase sponsorship, recruit members or progress facility development and upgrades.
To help the City’s Club Development team prioritise these workshops, sporting clubs are asked to submit an expression of interest form.
The City of Swan runs a seasonal (winter and summer) Come and Try program.
The objective of these Come and Try programs is to partner with a selected number of sporting clubs to host Come and Try sessions with support from the sport’s State governing body. These sessions will be targeting specific community demographics identified by the club and State governing body, with the aim of increasing membership, such as juniors, seniors, accessibility and inclusion, women and girls.
Summer series – August/September 2024
Winter series – February/March 2025
To be involved in the next series, contact the Club Development team at swan.clubs@swan.wa.gov.au.
Good Sports supports and inspires community sporting clubs to set up a better environment for players, volunteers, supporters and officials. For over 25 years, it has helped clubs tackle tricky topics such as alcohol, drugs, smoking, mental health and safe transport.
It’s an easy-to-use online program where clubs will have support from the Good Sports team every step of the way. Being a part of Good Sports shows the community that your club is a welcoming place, helping to bring in and keep members and volunteers. It can also help attract sponsors and meet duty of care to club members.
The program is run by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF), an independent and not-for-profit organisation funded by the State and Federal Government. The ADF is committed to building strong communities and minimising the harm caused by alcohol and other drugs.
There’s no cost to join Good Sports – it’s free for all community sporting clubs in Australia.
Below is a list of all of the City clubs that are part of the Good Sports program.
