Event description
Homelessness Week raises awareness of homelessness in Australia, taking place from Monday, August 4 to Sunday, August 10.Following the popularity of the event last year, we’re showing another free screening of ‘Under Cover’ – a documentary sharing the lives of an eclectic group of women from different cultural, financial and working backgrounds across Australia.
It highlights a devastating reality that women over 50 are the fastest-growing group experiencing homelessness in Australia. These women are forced to live in their cars, stay on friends’ couches or sofa beds, or live in short-term accommodations.
With the hardships of housing, stress, and aging, these women are looking for a home to call their own for the final chapter of their lives. They share complex and compelling stories that reflect the years of living ordinary lives, until a catastrophe or a series of circumstances knocked them off their feet.
Tickets are limited, so please book and ensure one ticket per person attending. Please note that this movie is rated PG, some themes may not be suitable for children under 12.
There will be a collection drop for homelessness services in the area and attendees are welcome to give or take from this drop box. Free snacks and drinks will also be available.
Photographs and videos may be taken of the event.
