Event description
Often called the Southern Lights in our part of the world, these shimmering curtains of colour have inspired myths, explorers, and scientists for centuries. In this presentation, we’ll uncover what causes the aurora, from solar storms and magnetic fields to the science of how those glowing greens, reds, and purples dance across the night sky. We’ll also explore its history in human culture, tips for when and where to see it, and how recent solar activity has made sightings more frequent, even as far north as Perth.
Whether you’ve admired the aurora in photographs, witnessed it in person, or dream of seeing it for the first time, this talk will illuminate the beauty and wonder of one of Earth’s most magical natural phenomena.
