Event description
Join us at Dayton Family Hub on Saturday 11 October 2025 from 10am for The Great Global Mend, an unofficial world-record attempt for the most people mending and repairing simultaneously, uniting 16 Perth councils in a celebration of creativity, sustainability, and community!
Visible Mending Workshop
The City of Swan is hosting a visible mending workshop presented by Shayde from Artistic Disorder between 10.30am - 12pm. Visible mending is an accessible craft that allows people to avoid the environmental pitfalls of fast fashion and embrace the beauty of imperfections. In this workshop for beginners, you'll learn some basic techniques and apply them to your item of clothing or a fabric practice piece.
Please bring up two clothing items and/or a fabric practice piece. All other mending materials will be provided. This workshop is suitable for people aged 15 and over.
World Record Attempt
At exactly 11am, participants will simultaneously start mending in an exciting countdown to attempt the world record. From sewing and patching to darning and sharing skills, attendees will bring their worn clothes and gear back to life while learning about sustainable fashion practices.
If you are coming to participate in the world record attempt please arrive at least 15 minutes prior, so we can include you in the counting that begins exactly on 11am.
