In Western Australia, all cats that have reached six months of age must be registered with a Local Government.
The City promotes responsible ownership of cats in our community and our Rangers ensure cats are registered, microchipped, and sterilized. All cat owners must comply with the Cat Act 2011(open in new window).
Please note, cat registration period ends on October 31 of the year of expiry.
To register your cat or transfer your registration to the City of Swan online, please choose the type of registration you require from the options below. You can also register your cat in person at the City's Main Administration Centre, or at any City of Swan Library.
Cat registration renewals can now be paid online (Renewals Only), please follow these steps to renew your registration online.
1. Confirm Renewal period
By default, when you pay online, your registration renewal period will remain the same from one renewal to the next. For example if your cat was registered for one year, your renewal period will be for one year.
Note: the frequency for renewals can only ever be 1 year, 3 years or Lifetime as per the Dog Act 1976 and Cat Act 2011.

3. Receive your tag
Once your fee has been processed, a tag number is usually issued within 24 hours. You will then be sent the tag by post.
You can pay for your registration renewal in person in the following locations:
- the City’s Main Admin Centre,
- any City of Swan Library, and also
- by Australia Post offices within the City of Swan.
