In Western Australia, all cats that have reached six months of age must be registered with a Local Government.
The City promotes responsible ownership of cats in our community and our Rangers ensure cats are registered, microchipped, and sterilized. All cat owners must comply with the Cat Act 2011(open in new window).
Please note, cat registration period ends on October 31 of the year of expiry.
To register your cat or transfer your registration to the City of Swan online, please choose the type of registration you require from the options below. You can also register your cat in person at the City's Main Administration Centre, or at any City of Swan Library.
1. Before you start
Make sure you have your microchip details available
You will need to enter the following microchip details:
- Microchip database company
- Microchip number
All cats aged 6 months or over must be microchipped unless they have an exemption. Learn more about microchip exemptions.
Make sure you have your credit card with you.
You can register a maximum of 2 cats
- You can only register two cats at a time.
- Any additional cats can only be registered once this cat permit is approved.
2. Register and Pay online
Choose the duration of your cat registration which will take you to our secure online payment gateway.
Please Note: The first address you enter in the form is the location where your cat will be kept.
*One year registrations between June 1 and October 31 will be reduced to $10.00 - applicable to first registrations only.
- Register for Lifetime - $100.00
- Register for Three years - $42.50
- Register for One year - $20.00
3. Receive your tag
Once your cat has been registered and the fee has been processed, a tag number is usually issued within 24 hours. You will then be sent the tag by post.

To be eligible for a 50% concession, pensioners must produce one of the following:
- Pensioner Concession Card
- Veteran Affairs Card
- Commonwealth Seniors Health Card together with a Seniors Card
- State Concession Card.
You will need a digital copy/photo of the relevant card to upload to this online application (showing both front and back of the card).
