Food safety

There are over 1300 food premises operating within the City of Swan. We work closely with these businesses to ensure they are operating and being maintained to an appropriate standard.

The City of Swan offers free online food safety training for our community. To access the training, please follow the links below.

Each program has different strengths, such as translations in different languages, so you can choose the course that best suits your needs.

The City strongly encourages all food business employees, especially those handling food, to take part in a training course.

Food safety legislation requires food businesses to ensure their staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to handle food safely, and the following courses help to meet this requirement easily.

At the end of the training, you will be able to print out a certificate of completion to provide to your employer or to attach to your resume.

Food Safety Supervisor training
The above training courses do not satisfy the requirement for food safety supervisor training. A food safety supervisor training course is a higher-level accredited course and is provided by a registered training organisation. The above courses are more suited to staff who work under a food safety supervisor.

For more information about food safety supervisor courses, visit the Western Australian Department of Health’s webpage.

In Australia, allergies are very common. For every 100 customers in your business two of them may have a food allergy. Below are some helpful resources:

Another helpful resource is an allergen matrix. This is an easy reference document, put together by you or your staff, to go to when you need to know if a dish on your menu contains any allergens.

We regularly conduct unannounced inspections of food premises. However, we cannot be everywhere all the time and do rely on members of the public also reporting issues to us.
